Another week, another episode of Parental Geekery, the show about parenting and geekiness. Ruth and John are back with their relaxed conversational style. We open with a little bit about health - three out of the four members of the family have been poorly, and to add to the complications Ruth's gallbladder surgery has been postponed, which is making Ruth stressed as she doesn't have a plan right now!
We talk about the kids' pocket money, as we've recently changed the way it works to try to encourage them to save more. So now the rules are that they can spend half and save half, and we've got them special money boxes to help them save.
We talk about our Half Term activities, and particularly our family trip to see The Lion King on stage.
We also had a family movie trip to see the Shaun the Sheep movie, and give our verdict on that. Whilst we're talking about film we mention the Oscars, and the winners that we are most pleased about. We're making plans for a family movie night, and the first movie is going to have to be The Princess Bride. Both of us have just finished reading Cary Elwes' book As You Wish, which is packed full of behind the scenes stories about the making of the movie. We highly recommend this.

Welcome to another episode of Parental Geekery. This is the show about parenting and geeky stuff, but for some reason we open today with a discussion about walking and chewing gum.
We then get into a more serious discussion about the recent news that the UK has paved the way for the creation of babies with 3 parents, and you can hear our opinion on this. Is it really fair to describe it as "3-parent babies", or is that just the press trying to simplify the concept for us?
We went to see Big Hero 6 at the cinema (yes, it finally opened here in the UK), and we talk about what we thought of it. We also talk about how the kids have been "fist bump"-ing non stop since seeing it.
We've invested in the Exploding Kittens Kickstarter, and we talk about this amazingly successful campaign, and what fun it is to be part of it. It seems to have become more than just a card game, especially with the newly-released community achievements for stretch goals. John also talks about the Flotilla Kickstarter which he has backed - this is a cool looking electronics kit for the Raspberry Pi. And speaking of the Raspberry Pi, we talk about the newly released Raspberry Pi 2 - we give you the lowdown on what's new with this tiny, budget computer.
